Reaching New Heights for Project Cargo with Fracht’s Railcars
December 6, 2013

Fracht is the chosen logistics provider for the Siemens – ATCO / WATL projects located in Alberta (Calgary/Edmonton). The 4 substations are the start of a new transmission line project spreading through the majority of Canada by 2017. Besides 40,000FRT of cargo, the heart of the project are the 16 converter transformers which are built in Nuremberg, Germany – each unit weighs close to 300 metric ton and is shipped by heavy lift vessel into the Port of Duluth.

The 2 new generation railcars Fracht has designed for the past 2 years rolled out of the factory just in time to be ready for this major project. They can support the units perfectly and only 2 other railcars are available in North America which are now under contract with Fracht as well.

Port of Duluth is a major project minded port on the very western part of the Great Lakes. According to them this is the largest heavy lift project ever to go through their port which is why they have prepared the attached article which will be posted in the Heavy Lift and other related magazines.

Fracht’s project division is here to assist you with your next project in North America.

Cargo Release without Original B/L - Normative Instruction from Federal Revenue of Brazil No. 1.356/2013
June 6, 2013

Please be informed that the Normative Instruction from Federal Revenue of Brazil No. 1.356/2013 that came in force on May 6th, 2013, has made substantial changes in the procedures related to the Customs clearance and cargo release. It exempts the Importers/Consignees from presenting the Original Bill of Lading to Customs Authorities, Terminals and Bonded Terminals, for releasing of cargo.

As a consequence of this amendment importers/consignees will be able to obtain the release of cargo even if the Original Bill of Lading is in the shipper´s hand. Therefore we strongly recommend to all Port of Loading agencies to inform local customers and shippers of this new Brazilian Customs Procedure but also to remind them the Carrier will not be responsible for any claim due to delivery of cargo without original bill of lading.

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this bill of lading Merchant is advised and agrees that according to destination country law and practice the Carrier has no control on the cargo' s release once discharged. Moreover Carrier has no interference on Consignee's decision to remove the cargo from one bonded terminal to another. Cargo is delivered through terminals to Receivers. This may be done without surrendering original bills of lading to the ship agent. In such case, the Carrier will not be responsible for any claim due to delivery of cargo without original bills of lading. Thus Shipper must ensure they are paid for their cargo prior to the beginning of the voyage.

Fracht Houston now ISO Certified
March 7, 2013

Fracht USA is proud to announce the certification of our Houston Branch as per ISO standards 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 & OHSAS 18001:2007.

ISO 9001: 2008 focuses on quality and vendor selection which will further strengthen our commitment to customer satisfaction and quality of service. ISO14001:2004 focuses on our environmental activities and impacts us as an organization to establish a positive change in preserving our environment. Last, but not least is OHSAS 18001:2007 which provides the framework to control health and safety risk as well as to improve the health and safety of employees.

Fracht Houston underwent a year long evaluation process to create the Integrated Management System (IMS) which consists of all three standards. A management committee was put together specifically for this project which was overseen by Dora Saldana.

As an international company, we want to demonstrate our commitment and be recognized as certified to international standards. This accomplishment will give us an edge to plug into the world wide market and set us apart from the competition.

In a second phase it is planned to have all the offices at Fracht USA certified.

Strikes at ECT Terminals Rotterdam
February 7, 2013

Please note that negotiations between ECT and the port workers-unions have been stopped as parties could not reach agreement.

This resulted in an unannounced 24 hour strike, started this morning at 05:10 hrs at all ECT Terminals;

  • ECT City Terminal, Rotterdam Waalhaven
  • Uniport Terminals, Rotterdam Waalhaven
  • ECT Delta Terminals, Maasvlakte
  • Euromax Terminal, Maasvlakte

This implies that the only operating deep-sea terminal in Rotterdam is the APM Terminal (Maersk Line and UASC).

Backlog at the landside of the terminals is already estimated to +48hrs for barge delivery/collections and +24 hrs for truck and rail delivery/collections and backlog will further increase during the time that the strike continues.

At the sea-side of the terminals (vessels) operations are carried out normal but since containers cannot be collected from the terminals and storage capacity is not unlimited. Congestions at the terminals are expected.

Terminal operations will be disturbed for a longer period as the backlogs at the landsides of the various terminals will cause severe delays.

Also keep in mind that since barge operators, rail-operators and truckers cannot get rid or get hold of the containers transport capacity problems will occur.

Strike should automatically end at 05:10 hrs tomorrow (08-02-2013) but the effects will interfere with operations at the terminals at least through-out the weekend and coming Monday.

Please keep in mind (severe) delays for all containers import or export passing through Rotterdam for the coming days.
